The Commandant Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Major General (Maj Gen) Matthew Essien has on Tuesday 25 June 2024 invited Right Honourable Kingsford Alban Bagbin to the Republic Day Lecture scheduled for 1 July. According to him, the formal invitation to the Speaker and members of the House was important since the lecture focuses on the democratic control of the military and the way forward for sustainability. Maj Gen Essien further stated that the public lecture would be an annual event on the calendar of the College. He said the guest speaker for the lecture would be the former Minister for National Security, Mr Francis Poku (Esq) with Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah and Professor Kwasi Anning as reviewers along with other ministers of state. On behalf of the Speaker, the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Fomena, Hon Andrew Asiamah Amoako, expressed gratitude to Maj Gen Essien for his visit despite serving the House with an invitation. He applauded the College for coming up with such an initiative, which touches on democracy adding that the public lecture would change the perception and eliminate the fear Ghanaians have about the military.
