The Directorate of Engineer Services (DES) has unveiled the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, as the Chief Sapper in the Engineering Department.DES unveiled this during an induction ceremony held for Colonel Archibald Kand Newton Mallet (Rtd) as the Regiment's Colonel at their premises on Friday 9 August, 2024. This event marks a significant milestone in the Directorate’s commitment to enhancing its engineering capabilities.In his speech, COAS assured the regiment of his dedication to accomplishing their objectives. He emphasized the need for members of the Engineer Corps to strive for excellence and work towards enhancing military capabilities.“I give you my word that I will work very hard to help build on and uplift the image of the engineer corps to the standard for which we all yearn”, he added.COAS stated that the appointment of Chief Sapper highlights the Ghana Armed Forces’ dedication to advancing engineering expertise critical to operational success.He continues that despite many challenges, even today, in every field of our national life, the sappers continue to make their mark and continue to play significant roles in the development of the country. The newly inducted Colonel of the Regiment, Colonel Mallet stated that he would play a pivotal role in upholding the standards and traditions of the corps, guiding its future endeavours, and ensuring its readiness for various missions.
