Central Command has organised steeple chase competition for units under its jurisdiction including the Headquarters Central Command Camp, 3 Infantry Battalion (3BN), 4 Infantry Battalion (4Bn) and 154 Armoured Regiment at Uaddara Barracks on Friday, 17 November 2023.

The 12km steeple chase competition which started from the 4BN main gate through some selected streets around Sofoline and back, saw competitors run obstacle courses, crossed a nearby streem carrying sand bags, climbed the confidence ladder, 2/4 meters wall, barb wire crawl, monkey ladder, vertical ropes and the heaving bar.

At the end of the competition 3Bn was adjudged the overall best team, followed by 4BN, 154 Armoured Regiment and HQ Central Command Camp respectively. Corporal Donkor Solomon of 3BN and Private Asraa Janet of 4BN were adjudged the best male and female competitors, respectively.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, Brigadier General Charles Agyemang-Prempeh, said the purpose of the competition was to test the endurance, enhance esprit de corps, loyalty, teamwork and perseverance of troops.

The Ashanti Regional Security Liaison Officer, Colonel Kofi Arthur (Rtd) who spoke on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Honourable Simon Osei-Mensah, expressed satisfaction for the thrilling and keenly contested exercise. He admired the participants for their fitness, endurance, teamwork and enthusiasm.

He emphasized that since the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been charged with the responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of the country, there was the need for a well-trained and disciplined soldiers with enduring spirit of team work to counter terrorism and transnational crimes in the sub region. He assured the personnel of government’s resolve to creating a conducive environment to enhance their training.
