The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama has on Wednesday, 24 January 2024 updated members of the Retired Commissioned Officers Association (RCOA) on the current trends and developments in the Ghana Armed Forces.

The engagement focused mainly on issues of importance to the retirees and the measures the Military High Command has employed to address key issues including health care, welfare, pay and allowances.

Addressing the retired officers, CDS made an emphatic statement on the improved state of healthcare delivery for both serving and retired personnel at the military infirmary. He also debunked media reports purporting the sale of the official residence of the CDS and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).

He disclosed that the Ministry of Defence has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Imperial Homes Limited (IHL), to develop 15-acre Roman Ridge land, currently housing CDS and COAS, to address the housing deficit within GAF. He revealed that 70% of the project would be allocated to IHL, with the remaining 30% reserved for GAF to construct accommodation units for various ranks in the service. 

The CDS described GAF as the most reliable institution in the country, adding that government has approved the expansion of the military to meet the current security demands of the country as well as combat crimes in the sub region.

The Director General Legal Services, Brigadier General Benjamin Amoah-Boakye revealed details of the housing projects estimated to be completed within 48 months when approved, comprises 6-bedroom residences for the CDS and COAS, 4-bedroom houses for 14 Major Generals, 3-bedroom accommodations for Officers in a 4-storey structure, and 2-bedroom units for Non-Commissioned Officers also in a 4-storey building.

President of RCOA, Brigadier General Samuel Yanyi-Akofur (Rtd), expressed gratitude to CDS for the various forms of assistance and commended him for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of military personnel.
