Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah inspects surveillance equipment at 1 Signal Brigade in Burma Camp

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah has inspected tactical surveillance equipment at 1 Signal Brigade in Burma Camp on Saturday 17 February, 2024.

The equipment includes a Mobile Command Trailer and a multi-purpose tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to enhance the surveillance and communication operations of the Armed Forces. 

Director, Armed Forces Drone Programme and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Soko Aerial Robotics explained the concept and operations of the Mobile Command Trailer.  He described the facility as a comprehensive tactical communication and surveillance vehicle designed and built locally by the Corps of Signals in partnership with Soko Aerial Robotics, under the leadership of the Commander 17 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General Anthony Ntem.

He emphasised that the vehicle’s high communication capabilities make it suitable for all military operations including intelligence gathering and emergency operations at all times, adding that it can be deployed fully autonomous or man-operated. 

The CDS, registered his commitment to improving the operational effectiveness and efficiency of GAF and gave the assurance of providing relevant equipment as well as supporting the manufacturing of requisite logistics needed to improve operational capabilities Service.

He commended the Corps of Signal and all who contributed to the realisation of the facility, emphasising that the contemporary security situation requires sophisticated military hardware and innovation to enable personnel meet the mandate of GAF. He noted that the vehicle would be deployed along the country’s borders, especially in the Northern Region where terrorist threat was high, to enhance the kinetic and non-kinetic operations of the Armed Forces.
