The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah has assured Anglogold Ashanti of continued security support for their operations. The CDS gave the assurance when a delegation from Anglogold Ashanti led by the Senior Vice President of the company, Mr Eric Asubonteng, paid a courtesy call on him at the General Headquarters on Friday 21 June, 2024. According to the CDS, the role of providing security for the company was important because of the vested interest of the Government of Ghana in AngloGold. He expressed gratitude to the company for supporting the construction of a 200-bed accommodation unit at the Army Peacekeeping Operation Training School, Bundase. He noted that the completion of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Obuasi would enhance security in the area and beyond. Mr Asubonteng in his remarks, praised the GAF for providing security to the personnel and installations of the company and pledged to help complete the first phase of the FOB in Obuasi this year.
