President and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned the rehabilitated Nationalism Park at Osu, Accra on Monday 2 December 2024.The commissioning aligns with the Government's vision to preserve Ghana's history and culture, promote tourism and foster national unity. The redeveloped park incorporates elements that honour the memories of three Ghanaian soldiers, namely; Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey, whose death fueled the struggle for Ghana's independence. It also has a children's playground, lighting features, a souvenir shop, coffee shop, washrooms, seating areas, a restaurant and a statue of the former Chief of Osu Alata, Nii Kwabena Bonne III. Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Honourable Mark Okraku Mantey, expressed gratitude to the President for his forward-thinking approach to developing Ghana's tourism sector. He emphasised that the park holds significant emotional and historical value for Ghanaians, symbolising the nation's spirit and heritage.‘The redevelopment incorporates elements that honour the country's heroes and showcases the values that define Ghanaian identity’ he added. Honourable Okraku Mantey noted that the redevelopment of the park reflects the Government's dedication to preserving and celebrating the nation's culture. He further stated that the park has now become a beacon of hope, a place where both locals and international visitors could learn, reflect and find inspiration. The Municipal Chief Executive of Korley Klottey Assembly, Samuel James Nii Tawiah, praised the Government's efforts to bring tourism closer to the municipality. He noted that the park would generate revenue and boost tourism in Ghana. He assured the President that the assembly would work diligently to maintain and preserve the park as a key asset in promoting domestic tourism.
