AUSTRIAN ARMED FORCES DONATES MILITARY DOGS TO GAF

The Austrian Armed Forces has donated two military working dogs to Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at the National Dog Academy, Accra on Wednesday 3 July 2024.

Presenting the two dogs to GAF, the Charge 'd' Affairs of the Austrian Embassy, Mr Jurgen Heissel said the gesture signified the symbol of friendship between both countries, adding that the dogs have been meticulously trained to support a variety of military operations including reconnaissance, detection of explosives, narcotics and provision of security and protection for personnel and installations.

Receiving the donation, the Provost Marshall Brigadier General Jackson Wonje stated that the National Dog Academy was established to provide specialized training for the canine unit and has become a beacon of success in military training in GAF.

He said the donation would significantly enhance the operational capability of the Army Special Operation Brigade describing the gesture as one which underscores the strong bilateral relations between Ghana and Austria.

The Provost Marshall disclosed that the Austrian Government through the Austrian Armed Forces has assisted GAF in the area of dog training, provision of dog medication and equipment since 2018 and has also trained four Military Police personnel in Basic and Advanced Dog handling in Austria.
