The 6 Infantry Battalion (6BN) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) embarked on Operation Halt II to flush out illegal mining activities on the Black Volta and other water bodies in the Northern and Savanna Regions of Ghana.

The three-days Operation from 25 to 28 July 2023 included river patrols on the Black Volta and foot patrols around Bole-Bamboi, Nteresu, Jogboi and its environs.

This Operation forms part of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Ghana and the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo’s vision to eradicate illegal mining activities from depleting the country’s forest cover and as well safeguard water bodies from pollution.

A total of Twenty-eight (28) changfang machines and other mining equipment were destroyed during the Operation.

The operation which was spearheaded by the Commanding Officer (CO) 6BN, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) JYA Ankuyi was composed of personnel from 6BN forming the nucleus, assisted by personnel of the 48 Engineer Regiment Detachment in Nteresu, Defense Intelligence Operatives in Bole, the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Air Force.
