The 66 Artillery Regiment (Rear) has celebrated the 2023 West African Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) at Volta Barracks, Ho on Friday, 29 December 2023. The aim of the celebration was to enable personnel and families reflect on the activities of the Regiment, distress, interact among themselves, and also to celebrate a successful year. The Volta Regional Minister, Honourable Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, who was the guest of honour for the occasion, commended the Regiment on their hard work and professionalism in the discharge of their duties as well as their continuous support to civil authorities to maintain law and order. He admonished troops to brace up in the area of Internal Security Operations as well as in the conduct of peaceful elections, since the success of the 2024 elections largely depended on sound intelligence and the obligation to defend the country at all cost. The Commander Rear, Lieutenant Colonel Jalali Din Ibrahim indicated that the Unit had accomplished its primary role of ensuring peace and security in the Volta and Oti Regions within the year. He emphasized that the Unit needs the cooperation of the people of the Volta and Oti Regions to enable it deliver on its mandate. Some Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff were presented with awards at the event for their hard work during the year. The ceremony was graced by families and prominent personnel across the Region.
