The 6 Infantry Battalion has concluded its pre-deployment training for Operation Peace Trail with a high-impact simulation exercise, codenamed Exercise Kaamu, on Wednesday 30 October 2024.

The exercise tested troops’ responses to diverse scenarios, including real-time situations, inter-agency coordination, crowd control, and media engagement strategies in preparation for the upcoming 2024 general election.

As part of the programme for the closing ceremony, troops engaged in vehicle checkpoint operations, crowd dispersal techniques, and simulated media interactions. These scenarios were carefully structured to reflect potential real-life situations that the troops may face in maintaining internal security during the elections.

The 6 Garrison Commander and Base Commander of Air Force Base Tamale, Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai, congratulated the participants on completing their training and praised their sacrifices throughout the programme. He encouraged them to stay united and work collaboratively to protect the nation, underscoring the importance of professionalism in their roles.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, commended the participants for their dedication, urging them to apply the newly acquired skills responsibly and remain non-partisan. He emphasized the need to avoid sensationalism and to uphold the highest standards of professionalism before, during, and after the elections.

The Commanding Officer of the 6 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Ankuyi, reaffirmed the battalion’s reputation as a modern training hub dedicated to excellence. He encouraged participants to carry the mantle of peace with pride, reminding them of their duty as citizens and uniformed personnel entrusted with the nation’s safety.

The Northern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Eric Winful, in a speech delivered on his behalf, praised the collaboration between the military and police throughout the training. He expressed optimism that this joint training would not only enhance the troops’ skills and confidence but also strengthen the inter-agency cooperation necessary for a secure election.
