The 6 Garrison has observed the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month under the theme, “Screen Early, Live Longer, Join the Fight,” on Friday 25 October 2024.

The event, held in a three-tier format, included concurrent activities such as a health walk, educational talk, and breast screening at Bawah Barracks and Camp Nyohini for a significant number of Garrison personnel and their families.

The General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, urged personnel to take breast examinations seriously and use the opportunity to get tested, emphasising that early detection and treatment save lives. He also advised personnel to avoid stigmatising friends and family members diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Northern Regional Manager of Services Integrity Service and Loans, Mr Dauda Issaka, in his remarks, stated that breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and the second leading cause of cancer-related death globally. He urged everyone to join the fight against the disease, which has brought suffering to individuals, families, and communities, and work together to make breast cancer a curable condition.
