The 6 Garrison and Yakubu Tali Airport conducted Exercise Tahabu on Tuesday, 26 November 2024, as part of the airport’s Safety Week activities to test emergency response capabilities.

This exercise aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 14, Chapter 9, which mandates all airports to conduct full-scale Emergency Evacuation Exercises at intervals not exceeding two years.

This year’s exercise simulated the detection of an explosive device at the terminal. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Regiment was tasked with neutralising the threat, showcasing swift and precise operational capacity.

Additionally, the Special Task Unit of the Air Force Base Tamale, together with the Special Forces of the 69 Airborne Force and the 6 Infantry Battalion, was deployed to conduct cordon-and-search operations and a comprehensive sweep of the terminal to ensure it was free from explosives and other terrorist threats.

The exercise, which also involved other security agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Ambulance Service, tested the coordination and response capabilities of various security agencies. It underscored the airport’s commitment to passenger safety and compliance with international aviation safety standards.
