The 54th anniversary flag raising ceremony of the International Day of La Francophonie has been held at the forecourt of the State House on Wednesday 20 March, 2024.
The celebration aims at projecting the mission and mandate of the Organisation International of La Francophonie (OIF) by promoting the French culture and linguistic diversity, peace, democracy, human rights, education and training to foster economic cooperation.
The President and Commander-in- Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated that, Ghana recognises the strategic importance of her immediate neighboring countries and determines to strengthen its bond of friendship through cooperating with La Francophone by transitioning from an associate member to a full member.
He mentioned that Ghana was hopeful the 2024 summit in France later this year would make Ghana’s transition to full membership status within OIF. He added that the Government of Ghana in collaboration with the groups of Francophone ambassadors has elevated the commemoration of La Francophone to a new to amplify its presence in Ghana.
He advised all to embrace the diversity of languages and cultures represented within the Francophone family recognizing that through dialogue and collaboration the shared challenges facing the world would be addressed.
Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated that all should grab the opportunity to deepen engagement with the Francophone partners and harness the power between languages and culture to build a more prosperous and harmonious future for all.
The Lebanese Ambassador and President of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors, HE Maher Kheir expressed delight for the gathering that is to revive diverse community united by the French Language and shared values.
He said, “As we celebrate the richness and diversity of the Francophonie, there was the need to embrace our shared heritage and transform our differences”. He entreated all to continue to work together to build a brighter tomorrow for the next generations.
He urged everyone to reaffirm their commitment to the values of democracy, human rights and comprehensive development. He urged all to rededicate themselves to fostering dialogue, understanding and conciliation among people of different cultures.
