Ghana National Cadet Corps has celebrated its 70th anniversary with a grand parade held at the Black Star Square in Accra on Monday July 1 2024 under the theme “Empowering Ghana's Youth for Peace and Stability Towards Development”. The event also marked the 64th anniversary since Ghana became an independent republic on Friday, 1 July, 1960. The parade was reviewed by the Vice President of Ghana, His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and accompanied by the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Eric Nkansah, and the National Cadet Coordinator, General Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifio. Dr Bawumia commended the cadets for their impressive display of drill skills and choreography routines. He emphasized on the theme for the parade and encouraged the youth to play a major role in the upcoming general elections by fostering peace before, during, and after the polls. The Vice President also reiterated the need for stakeholders in the various security services and Ministry of Education to work closely with the National Cadet Coordinator General to allocate a minimum of 10% quota for the Corps to further encourage youth participation and empowerment during recruitment and enlistment. On parade were about 20,000 youth under the command of Cadet Senior Under Officer Samuel Adriel Papa Nii Tettey. They marched and formed the phrase "CADET AT 70 HURRAY"
