The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, has stressed the importance of collective action against misinformation during the launch of Cyber Security Awareness Month on Tuesday 1 October 2024, at Burma Hall.

Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah highlighted the critical role individuals play in detecting, preventing, and mitigating misinformation and disinformation in the digital space, particularly to ensure peaceful and fair elections. He affirmed that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) would continue to support civil authorities and security agencies in maintaining Ghana’s democratic stature in Africa.

He also assured that GAF would take measures to ensure that its personnel effectively discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, especially ahead of the 2024 general elections. He cautioned the media against unprofessional conduct and encouraged responsible reporting on security issues. He further urged the media to clarify doubts with the GAF’s Department of Public Relations.

The Cyber Security Awareness Month, organised under the auspices of the National Cybersecurity Authority and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, featured Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful as the Guest of Honour.
