UNISFA GHANBATT 2 takes delivery of new sets of Contingent Owned Equipment

The Second Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 2) of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) has dedicated newly inserted Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) at the Battalion Headquarters on Sunday 21 April, 2024.

Fleet of vehicles and equipment dedicated include Brone Transporter Russian (BTR) Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), Toyota Land Cruiser Mark II vehicles, Toyota Land Cruiser Assault vehicles, KAMAZ Utility Trucks and KAMAZ Water Tankers. The others were Toyota Land Cruiser Ambulance, KAMAZ Fuel Tankers, IVECO Recovery Trucks, IVECO Maintenance Van, and assorted engineering and earth moving equipment.

The effort was in fulfillment the requirements of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United Nations (UN) and the Government of Ghana to enhance the operational efficiency of the Unit.

Officiating clergy Capt S Aidoo and Lieutenant Y Abdallah; chaplain and imam respectively said prayers of protection over the equipment, its users and the purpose for which they were deployed.

The Commanding Officer (CO) Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) ES Appiah cut the tape for the equipment to be deployed for operational and administrative duties in the attainment of UNISFA mandate.

Prior to the dedication, the UNISFA COE Section conducted an Arrival Inspection of the newly inserted COE, verified their serviceability and operational effectiveness pursuant to the provisions of the 2020 COE Manual to enable it draw reimbursement at the appropriate rates for the Government of Ghana.

CO UNISFA GHANBATT 2 commended all personnel for their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication in getting the COE ready for the Arrival Inspection and admonished all users, drivers and operators to take good care of the equipment and maintain it.

Furthermore, he expressed his appreciation to the Military High Command for their support in ensuring the COE were successfully inserted into the Mission Area.
