The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah has described the relationship between the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) as a partnership for national development.

He said this when he led a delegation from the GAF to pay a courtesy call on the Director General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor at the GTEC Headquarters in Accra on Monday 25 March, 2024.

During their interaction, the CDS stated that his visit was to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions especially towards obtaining presidential charter for the establishment of the National Defense University (NDU).

On his part, the Director General, GTEC commended the CDS for his transformational leadership and reiterated the willingness of the Commission to provide the necessary services within its mandate, especially in facilities and quality assurance to the GAF in the realization of the NDU.

The DG also noted, the NDU was envisioned by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the GAF, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo due to security concerns on the continent. He therefore emphasized the need to equip Military institutions with contemporary knowledge and skills to deal with emerging challenges. Professor Jinapor also assured the CDS of the commitment of GTEC to support GAF to establish the National Defense University during the tenure of the CDS.

Present with the CDS were the National Coordinator, National Boundary Commission, Maj Gen E Kotia, Deputy Chief of Staff Operations and Training, Maj Gen J Aphour and the Chief Coordinator at the NCDS, Brig Gen PS Tanye-Kulono.
