Ghana marked the 72^nd Commonwealth Day celebration with a flag-raising ceremony at the forecourt of the State House on Monday 11 March, 2024 under the theme; “One Resilient Common Future”.

The event signifies the importance of unity, collaboration and resilience among commonwealth nations.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong who was the Guest of Honour said, theme highlights need for the 56-member- countries to harness their strength by leveraging the commonwealth advantage to ensure a resilient common system where no member country would be left behind.

He stated that, Ghana’s relationship with the commonwealth was historical and deeply rooted in mutual respect and understanding.

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson on behalf of the Head of Commonwealth, His Majesty Prince Charles III expressed gratitude to all participating countries. She emphasised that, the core values of democracy were the major factors that unites commonwealth nations. She commended Ghana’s efforts in the Commonwealth and urged all nations to find ways of healing and supporting one another.

The Rwandan High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Rosemary Mbabazi on behalf of the Commonwealth Chair, called for collective efforts in paving way for a brighter future.

The Head of Mission, Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) Mr John Obeng Apea on behalf of the secretary-general of the Commonwealth, Her Excellency Baroness Patricia Scotland also stated that the celebration marks a moment of reflection urging all nations to continue working hard for the benefit of member nations.

The Deputy Minister together with the British and Rwanda High Commissioners planted trees to help reduce the impact of global warming and to signify the bond that exists between Commonwealth nations.
