The Army Special Operations Training School (ASOTS) in Daboya has organized a five-day inter-company novices boxing competition for recruits of Basic Infantry Training Course 1-23, from Monday 13 to Friday 17 November 2023.

The fitness and endurance test competition which aims at equipping the recruits with the requisite skills for self-defense also measured their readiness for the challenging tasks ahead after the completion of the training.

Speaking on behalf of General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Matthew Essien, the Command Operations Officer, Headquarters Northern Command, Colonel (Col) Agbebo said that the overall objective of the military training was to produce well-trained, highly motivated, physically and mentally robust soldiers capable of undertaking any task assigned to them. He added that the boxing competition serves as a critical component to measure both physical and mental progress of the recruits.

Col Agbebo, however, admonished the recruits to use the skills acquired to protect themselves and the civilian populace.

At the end of the keenly contested novices boxing competition, one which saw a swift combination of jabs, cross, hooks, and uppercuts, recruits, Wobil Frank and Osuman Faruza were adjudged best male and female boxers respectively. Hippo Company emerged as the overall best company.
