The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has commissioned Forward Operating Bases (FOB) at Sankore and Kenyase in the Ahafo Region on Friday 29 November 2024. Commissioning the FOBs which has 80-man accommodation funded by Newmont Mining Company Limited, the Deputy Staff Officer at the Army Headquarters Brigadier General Kweku Dankwah Hagan, said the creation of additional regions has prompted the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) developed a strategic plan to increase the military footprints across the country. He noted that Newmont Ghana Mining Company Limited, realizing the need to safeguard peace and security accepted to provide the needed support for the military leading to the deployment of detachments at strategic locations in the Ahafo Region.In his address, the General Officer Commanding Central Command Brigadier General Michael Opoku urged the people of Sankore especially the youth to maintain the peace in the area. He noted that the deployment of security personnel in Sankore would help keep peace in the area and the Region as a whole. The General Manager for Ahafo South Mine Newmont Ghana Limited Mr Alex Kofi Annin said, it was a profound sense of pride and accomplishment to officially hand over the newly constructed FOBs to the military. The occasion he said marks the culmination of visionary project made possible through the collaborative efforts of Newmont Ghana and the Government, reflecting shared commitment to the development and the security of the Ahafo Region.
