5 April 2019. Troops of Ghana Engineer Company 6 (GHANENG COY 6) have made a cash donation of GH¢14,000.00 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCC) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Friday 5 April 2019.
The purpose of the donation was to assist the less-privileged patients at the Cardiothoracic Centre to pay their medical bills.
Officer Commanding (OC) GHANENG COY 6, Lt Col Michael Mfum, stated that the benevolence of his team would serve as an example to individuals, corporate organisations and the general public.
He and his team toured the wards to see how the patients were faring and also interacted with them.
Director of the Cardiothoracic Centre, Doctor Lawrence Agyeman Sereboe, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Lt Col Mfum and his team for the kind gesture shown to the Centre. He added that the donation would go a long way to reduce some financial challenges the Centre was faced with. He further stated that it was pathetic that some patients who were diagnosed with heart diseases passed on because of financial constraints.
Dr Lawrence reminded soldiers that the “Ghana Heart Foundation” was still in existence and encouraged them to continue to donate when they had the opportunity to do so. He also revealed that the Centre had made plans to launch an application where the general public could access and make donations to support the Centre. He explained that the online application would inform benevolent people and organisations who would want to donate to the Centre.
He welcomed GHANENG COY 6 back home from their United Nations Mission and wished them well in all their endeavours.
