The Ghana Army School of Ammunition and Explosives (GASAE) has successfully organised a three-week European Union–sponsored Ammunition Management and Technology Course.

The training which ended on Thursday 4 December 2025 aimed to enhance the capability of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in modern ammunition storage, handling, safety and stockpile management. It covered hazard classification, storage protocols, explosives safety, transportation procedures, physical security measures and ordnance accountability.

The Guest of Honour, the Commander Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, emphasised the importance of effective ammunition management in military operations. He commended GASAE for delivering a comprehensive and professionally organised training that equiped personnel with the technical expertise necessary to uphold international ammunition safety standards.

Brigadier General Amanor encouraged the graduates to apply their newly acquired knowledge as subject-matter experts within their units. He highlighted the importance of enforcing proper ammunition-handling procedures, maintaining accountability and addressing unsafe practices.

“As the Ghana Armed Forces expand its operational footprint and establish Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) nationwide, such technical proficiency is increasingly valuable” he added.

The Defence Attaché of EU to Ghana, Lieutenant Colonel Ansgar Glatzel, representing the European Union, reaffirmed the commitment to supporting operational effectiveness of GAF. He outlined ongoing assistance, including the provision of armoured vehicles, drones, communication equipment and specialised training programmes. He also expressed continued readiness to collaborate with Ghana in strengthening defense capabilities and promoting regional security.

Colonel Glatzel commended the participants for their dedication and highlighted the long-standing partnership between the EU and Ghana in areas of defense cooperation, capacity building and peace and security initiatives.

All 21 participants successfully completed the program and received certificates of achievement. Staff Sergeant Richard Owusu was adjudged the Overall Best Participant for his outstanding performance.
