3 July 2018. The United State of America Air Force Africa Band (USAFA) and the Armed Forces Central Band (AFCB) have held a Joint Band Performance on Tuesday, 3 July 2018 at the Burma Hall in Burma Camp.
The event was aimed at deepening friendly relations between both institutions as well as to give the personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) the opportunity to witness a collaborative performance from both Bands.
The US Defence Attaché to Ghana, Lieutenant General Joseph Lee stated that the concept of the Joint Band Performance was to bind cultures together. He said the band travelled to Europe and Africa to present their type of music as well as tap from the diverse cultures they interacted with.
The Director AFCB, Col Francis Ennin, who emphasised on the slogan of the band – ‘Music is the pivot of life’ implored the audience to appreciate the aesthetic value of music in the society. He mentioned that, music was traced to story of Saul and David in the Bible and it was the only discipline that had neither barrier nor suits yet calmed the soul.
The guest of honour, Commander Support Services Brigade Group, Brigadier General Stanley Brain Alloh stated that if music was the food of life then one had to play on. He commended the program as worthwhile and underscored that one need not belong to a particular culture to understand their music. He thanked the US Air Force Band and the Armed Forces Central Band for a wonderful performance.
The Five Member USAFA Band and the AFCB performed Ghanaian Contemporary and Traditional music, La Paloma, Blue Boza, Cherry Brezz amongst others; to the admiration of the audience.
