The Office of Security Cooperation, United States Department of Defence, has handed over the Level II Plus Hospital to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Thursday 5 September 2024 at Nyesie, Tamale.

The 60-bed mobile field hospital is equipped with an intensive care unit, two surgical operating rooms, an x-ray machine, a laboratory, a morgue, an emergency room, and two power generators, providing full medical and operational support for up to 60 patients.

At the handing-over ceremony, the Minister for Defence and Guest of Honour, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, on behalf of the Government and GAF, expressed gratitude to the US government and the US Ambassador to Ghana for the generous donation. He stated that this contribution would enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to personnel of 6 Garrison and the civilian population in the region. 

The Minister added that the facility would also strengthen the health sector's capability to achieve universal health coverage in the region, with the aim of becoming a major trauma hospital in the Northern Sector.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer, expressed pride in the long-standing security partnership between the United States and Ghana. She noted that the US Government is committed to supporting Ghana through regional security cooperation, long-term development investments, and the protection of democratic institutions.

The Deputy Chief of Staff (Medical), Major General Raymond Ewusi, also expressed sincere gratitude to the US government, the Ambassador, and the team for their tireless efforts towards this donation. He emphasised that this gesture underscores the strong bond and shared values of service, sacrifice, and compassion between the two nations.
