1 April 2019. A brief mission accomplishment ceremony has been held to welcome back troops of Ghana Battalion 6 (Ghanbatt 6) who participated in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Monday 1 April, 2019 at 5 Battalion Square, Burma Camp.
Ghanbatt 6 was led by the Commanding Officer (CO), Lt Col Albert Sison Ogaja, who handed over to Ghanbatt 7 commanded by Lt Col Antwi Awuah Darkwah.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command, Brig Gen Nsiah Yeboah, on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Service Chiefs and Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) welcomed and congratulated them for a successful tour of duty.
He said Command had followed their progress in the mission area since March last year and acknowledged their high operational performance and extensive operations conducted in a very hostile and extended Area of Responsibility (AoR).
He further mentioned that Command was aware of the difficult terrain as well as operational challenges the Ghanbatt was faced with in South Sudan. He said Command appreciated their efforts and urged them to be proud of their accomplishments for being able to dominate their AoR which prevented hostile activities in ensuring peace and security.
Brig Gen Yeboah said that the troops would join their colleagues on internal duties after their deserved rest but cautioned them against activities by some greedy service personnel that seriously undermined military operations. He said GAF expected nothing short of professional excellence and advised them to bring their rich experience in Sudan to bear in their internal duties.
He entreated troops to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, loyalty and discipline at all times and presented a citation to the Commanding Officer.
