The Western Naval Command (WNC) has undertaken a clean-up and voluntary blood donation exercise at Essikado Hospital on Thursday 11 December 2025 as part of its annual end-of-year activities aimed at strengthening community relations and supporting public health.
The exercise saw scores of Naval officers, Ratings, and Defence Civilian Staff sweeping the hospital compound, desilting drains, trimming overgrown vegetation and painting. Simultaneously, some personnel from the Command participated in a blood donation drive facilitated by the blood bank unit of the hospital to replenish stock for emergency and routine medical cases.
Speaking at the exercise, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) the Western Naval Command, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, commended the personnel for their dedication to service beyond their core operational duties.
He noted that the mandate of the Navy extends beyond maritime security to include supporting the well-being of the communities it serves. He remarked that their presence at the facility demonstrated their commitment to assisting Essikado Hospital and ensuring patients received care in a clean environment with sufficient blood supply to save lives.
The Head of Administration at Essikado Hospital, Mrs Doris Teiko Acquaye expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Ghana Navy, lauding both the clean-up and blood donation as timely interventions.
She stated that a clean environment was crucial for healthcare delivery and the blood donated would go a long way in supporting critical medical procedures. She described the partnership as invaluable and was hopeful it would continue.
