The Army Training Command (ATRAC) has held a closing ceremony for a total of 21 senior officers of the 5th batch of the Battalion Commanders’ Course on Friday 12 December 2025 at Buchanan Hall, Whistler Barracks, Teshie.

The event marked the end of a 10-week intensive training programme designed to equip senior officers with leadership, operational and administrative competencies required to command battalion-level units across various formations.

The course is a key component of the Army’s professional development programme, focused on enhancing command capabilities, improving decision-making skills and strengthening participants’ understanding of modern warfare and emerging security challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Gbetanu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, stated that the essence of the course was to broaden participants’ horizons and prepare them to lead the Ghana Armed Forces into the future with confidence.

He noted that it is the expectation of the military high command that the skills gained during the course will serve as a compass, providing participants with the necessary guidance to navigate uncharted territories competently.

“This course has equipped you with the skills to effortlessly fit into command and staff positions at any level and execute assigned tasks efficiently,” he added.

Brig Gen Paintsil reiterated the complex and evolving security challenges facing the country, which require adaptable and forward-thinking commanders, and encouraged participants to demonstrate exemplary leadership, as their conduct directly influences the performance and reputation of the units they may lead.

Awards were presented to participants who distinguished themselves during the course.

Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Peprah Obuobi was adjudged the overall best student, while Lieutenant Colonel Enock Rafiq Awudu and Lieutenant Colonel Harry Joe Bawoke took the second and third positions, respectively.
