23 June 2018. The Forces Senior High Technical School (FSHTS) has celebrated its 3rd Speech and Price Giving Day dubbed “National Development through Science, Technology, Technical and Vocational Education” on Saturday, 23 June 2018, at Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church, Burma Camp.
The Guest of Honour for the occasion, Deputy Minister for Technical and Vocational Education, Honourable Ayisi Asher who read the address on behalf of the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia stated that national development required accessible and easily applicable scientific as well as technological tools which should be appropriate and sensitive to the socio-cultural aspirations of Ghanaians.
Madam Ayisi Asher said proficient graduates of Science, Technology, Vocational and Technical education, even at the secondary level, could be trusted to use the acquired knowledge to plunge them into various employment avenues. This she said was characterized by the numerous self-employed and readily employable artisans in the country.
She congratulated the Board of Governors, Headmaster and the Staff for putting together the programme and urged them to make speech and prize giving a constant part of the school’s calendar. She also encouraged students to take full advantage of the favourable environment created by the authorities and always remember that academic success was an outcome of discipline, hard work and dedication.
She impressed on the Alumni of the school to get interested in the affairs of the school. She implored them to adopt projects in the school as that could motivate the students aside complementing the efforts of the government.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa who chaired the occasion stated that the theme was a wakeup call to the school.
He encouraged the students to take their studies serious and challenged them to place first top in the next National Maths and Science Quiz.
The Guest Speaker, Director Technical Examination Unit – Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Seth Danso Appau made it known that, the theme could not be over looked since the labour market was looking for trained and skilled personnel.
The Headmaster, Lieutenant Colonel Osman Sham-un in his report mentioned that the strategic plan of the school was to develop the institution into a Model Senior High Technical School which would be a centre of excellence for Science Technical and Vocational education. To this effect, the school was rebranded and is now christened Forces Senior High Technical School (FSHTS)
He further requested for support to help solve the numerous challenges faced by the school in order to have a serene atmosphere conducive for teaching and learning.
Ministers of state, the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Honourable Sowah Odote Vicent, Senior Officers, Officers, Traditional Leaders, Heads from some Senior High Schools, Parents, old students were there to grace the occasion.
There were cultural displays, poetry recitals, appeal for funds, presentations of award as well as citations during the celebration.
