Students of Nigerian Army War College led by the Director, Higher Military Studies and Inter-Agency Relations, Brigadier General Olutosin Adebayo Ogunleye are in Ghana for a 5-day study.

The visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and study the minerals sector for policy formulation, interpretation and implementation in Nigeria.

The study tour was under the theme “Protection of Solid Minerals to Enhance National Security”.

The delegation visited the Minerals Commission, where the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Mr Martin Kweku Ayisi briefed the team on Ghana’s small scale mining and how Ghana is combating illegal mining with the aid of the military. He highlighted the modern techniques acquired in fighting illegal mining and the importance of technology in mining.

Other areas the delegation will be briefed on include the current security challenges confronting the international community, evolution of mining in Ghana, as well as policies, impact, challenges and efforts to curb illegal mining.
