The closing ceremony of Conventional Munitions Disposal (CMD)/Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) training of Trainers Course has taken place at Michel Camp on Friday, July 21, 2023. The Four- week training saw 16 participants of 5 Officers and 11 soldiers.
The Commander of 85 EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Regiment, Colonel Gasper Asare, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Oppong Peprah, expressed gratitude to the British Government and International School for Security and Explosive Education (ISSEE) limited for their support and training to fight the threats of terrorism.
He stated that this training has given the Ghana Armed Forces the best footing to train more of its personnel to be able to handle the threats. The British Government has assisted the Ghana Army by training and graduating three different groups for Explosive Device Disposal and have equipped the Army with instructors that are going to continue training personnel for this new Regiment. According to him currently a full Regiment of EOD has been formed and operationalized from June, 2023.
Colonel Gasper Asare disclosed that the EOD Unit for United Nations operations has been considered and the necessary equipment’s are being acquired to be able to honour this operation.
The British Defence Attaché to Ghana, Commander Richard Walters in his remarks expressed appreciation to the Ghana Army for creating 85 EOD Regiment and to the participants for their efforts and sacrifices. He said Ghana will be the only Country on the African continent after the entire program to train itself. Adding that the British Government is going to continue to support the Ghana Armed Forces.
