The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has witnessed the handing and taking over ceremony between Ghanaian Battalions (GHANBATT) 12 and 13 at the GHANBATT Headquarters in Bentiu, South Sudan on Friday 07 November 2025.
It marked the official transfer of authority and command of the area of responsibility from the Commanding Officer (CO) of GHANBATT 12, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Godfred Asampong to CO GHANBATT 13, Lt Col Edmund Teye Kojo Tekpetey.
The Guest of Honor for the ceremony, Sector Commander, Brigadier General Zewdu Endris Yimer commended Lt Col Asampong for his professionalism and leadership. He also applauded GHANABATT 12 for their notable achievements and sacrifices which directly impacted civilian protection, humanitarian freedom of movement.
The Acting Contingent Commander, Lt Col Anthony Asiedu congratulated the outgoing CO and his troops for their hard work, dedication and commitment. He also welcomed the incoming CO, Lt Col Edmund Teye Kojo Tekpetey, urging him to continue the excellent work.
In his remarks, the outgoing CO, Lt Col Godfred Asampong expressed pride in GHANBATT 12 for being the first to GHANBATT to conduct long dynamic air patrols to remote areas like Panyijar and Ganyiel. He thanked the Military High Command for the support.
He thanked the Military High Command of Ghana for the trust, support and wished GHANBATT 13 success on their tour of duty.
