GAF COMMENCES EXERCISE TIGERS’ PATH 2025

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has kick started activities of the 15th edition of Exercise Tigers’ Path with an opening ceremony at Abenase in Akim Achiase on Monday 24 November 2025.

The exercise, organised by the Jungle Warfare School (JWS), Achiase, is aimed at enhancing troops operational readiness and foster cooperation among the 3 arms of service.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu who was the Guest of Honour, in his opening remarks thanked the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong for his support. He stated that the exercise is to test troops physical fitness, teamwork, mental endurance and operational readiness in a jungle setting.

He indicated that modern warfare demands an Armed Forces that is physically fit, mentally agile and operationally effective. He urged participants to embrace teamwork, coordination and professionalism at all times.

“Push yourself to the limit and remember that the goal is to enhance your combat readiness and ensure that when duty calls, you stand prepared to defend Ghana and contribute meaningfully to the peace and stability”, he said.

Maj Gen Gbetanu charged all instructors to uphold the highest standard of fairness, credibility and professionalism throughout the exercise.
Participating in the 4-day biennial exercise are teams drawn from Northern Command, Central Command, Southern Command, Ghana Navy, Ghana Air Force and the Support Services Command.

Ex Tigers’ path began in 1991 under the Command of the Commandant of the then Military Academy and Training School (MATS), Brigadier General Lawrence Appah and the Commanding officer (CO) of the Jungle Warfare school, Lt Col Augustine Peter Blay, later the Chief of the Defence Staff.

The exercise was however halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Over the years, the exercise has seen modifications to meet growing security challenges to present day. These include; jungle survival, combat triage, medical evacuation, navigation, offensive operations, obstacle crossing and range work.

The Guest of Honour and entourage, used the opportunity to visit and thank the Chiefs, Nananom and the local authorities in Achiase for their continuous support of GAF activities.
