The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Directorate and Stanford Health have immunised pupils of 1 Garrison Education Centre, Michel Camp, against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) on Friday 11 October 2024.

The exercise, which targets pre-adolescents between the ages of 9 and 14 years, aims to minimise the prevalence of HPV infections in Ghana, as the timely administration of the HPV vaccine before the onset of sexual activity safeguards their health.

The Garrison Education Officer, Captain Juaha Adamu, extended gratitude to the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate and Stanford Health for providing the HPV vaccination to the schoolchildren. He noted that parental consent was diligently obtained before vaccinating the students.

The Municipal Adolescent Health Coordinator at the Kpone Katamanso Health Directorate, Madam Henrietta Agyeiwaa Gyebi, emphasised the importance of HPV vaccines, indicating that just one dose can effectively provide long-lasting protection. She described the HPV vaccine as a pivotal tool to alleviate the burden of HPV infection and cervical cancer.

Madam Gyebi also assured that follow-ups on vaccinated children would be conducted, with any issues recorded referred to the One Medical Resource Service in Michel Camp. She encouraged sponsors to join the cause to ensure that all children in the Municipality benefit from the HPV vaccination.

A total of 300 pupils from Garrison Primary, Army Primary, and Camp One Primary Schools in Michel Camp received the HPV vaccination.

In a related development, Samaritan’s Feet donated five hundred pairs of medicated footwear and souvenirs to the pupils.
