The 66 Artillery Regiment and Ghana Police Service have completed a joint training for OPERATION CALMLIFE and PEACE TRAIL at Nkwanta North in the Volta and Oti Regions on Friday 16 August 2024.

The joint training which commenced on Monday 12 August to 16 August 2024 was aimed at preparing troops towards the upcoming general elections.

In his opening remarks, the Acting Commanding Officer (CO) of the 66 Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Jalali Din Ibrahim, emphasised that the training aimed to enhance interoperability between the military and the police, revise personnel on standard operating procedures and rules of engagement and build trust between the two forces.

 He urged the troops to remain professional and disciplined, in all their endeavours, be non-partisan, and stay vigilant and be security-conscious at all times.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Andrews Boadu-Ekumah, on his part, encouraged the troops to work as a team and respect each other’s roles. He said the military and police have distinct responsibilities in ensuring security within their operational areas and emphasised the importance of understanding and adhering to these boundaries.

The topics treated during the training were; media relations, crowd dispersal, voice procedures, Military Police Joint Operations, Rules of Engagement, and Urban Patrolling. The training climaxed with a simulation exercise, EX PEACE ANGEL, which replicated a typical polling station scenario.
