The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Matthew Essien visited the 11 Mechanized Battalion, the Joint Task Force OP MAIDA-BUURI and the proposed 12 Mechanized Barracks Site in Sandema. The Operational visit was to inspect on-going projects as well as interact with Officers and Soldiers within the Area of Operation. The inspection was also done to check the Operational Readiness of troops in the Upper East Region, Ghana. He encouraged Commanders to intensify training to develop and sustain skills and capabilities of troops. The GOC expressed appreciation to troops on behalf of the Military High Command for their dedication to duty over the period. He added that the new Unit, 12 Mechanized Battalion would soon be Operationalized to augment security efforts in the Command Area of Responsibility. Brigadier General Essien further urged the troops to remain disciplined and vigilant at all times in order to keep a robust posture against Terrorist Armed Groups.
