General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brig Gen Samuel Yeboah Asare has commenced operational visit to units and Forward Operating Bases (FOB) under his command on Wednesday, 15 November 2023.

The familiarisation tour afforded him the opportunity to interact with troops as well as gain first-hand information on the various operational activities conducted by the units so as to inform tactical and operational decision in support of national development.

The GOC visited the 1 Infantry Battalion (1Bn) at Michel Camp, where he was given a thorough brief on the operational, logistics and administrative state of the Battalion by the Commander Rear Lieutenant Colonel Frank Adams, supported by other staff officers. He was also conducted round some key infrastructure in the unit.

Brig Gen SY Asare also visited the Electricity Company of Ghana taskforce that has troops drawn from 1Bn and the 48 Engineer Regiment currently operating at a forward position at Somanya in the Eastern Region.

He again visited troops on ‘Operation Motherland’; a Ghana Armed Forces operation against secessionist activities at the Akosombo and Kpong transmission stations and Atimpoku.

The GOC is expected to pay similar visits to all units under southern command including the 2-Infantry Battalion (2Bn), 5 Infantry Battalion (5Bn), 66 Artillery Regiment, 48 Engineer Regiment and 1 Field Workshop.
