In a collaborative effort between Peacekeepers and Humanitarian Agencies led by the Officer Commanding the Ghana Battalion’s (GHANBATT) Delta Company, a project christened “All for One” aimed at identifying and collectively addressing pressing societal needs in the County on an annual basis has been launched.

For its maiden edition, notable humanitarian agencies such as MED AIR, HOPE RESTORATION SOUTH SUDAN, UNIDOR, NILE HOPE, HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION ORGANISATION, SAMARITAN PURSE, AND MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIERS collaborated with GHANBATT’s Delta Company to provide tables and chairs, educational materials, sanitary items, laundry items, dignity kits and football boots to 12 selected schools across five (5) Payams (administrative divisions) in Leer County. Additionally, cash prizes were awarded to the best male and female teachers in each school.

Mr. Simon Riak, the County Director for Education, expressed his appreciation for the support, stating that “the arrival of Peacekeepers and Humanitarian Agencies, armed not with weapons but with books, has paved the way for recovery”. He further emphasized the need for concerted efforts in addressing the shortcomings of the educational system in the County.

Honourable Yien Padiel Tut, Member of Parliament for Leer and representative of the Leer Commissioner, Honourable Stephen Thaker, commended GHANBATT for its assistance to the County in various forms and donated an extra 150,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) to all the female teachers who were awarded.

Lieutenant Colonel Prince Tandoh, Commanding Officer of Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 10 remarked that "Making a profound impact on the lives of countless children, fostering a love for learning, and empowering young minds to surmount adversity are vital aspects of the peacekeeping process. We will continue collaborating with our partners to contribute to these goals through the All for One Project in Leer County."

The inaugural event, held on 16 June 2023, marked the initiation for the current year. The event, which was held at Mary Jones Primary School had over 2000 students and teachers in attendance. In a County burdened with the aftershock of conflict, the presence of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers and Humanitarian Agencies has been vital in providing essential aid and restoring hope to the affected population.
