The visit of the Deputy Director for Plans and Strategic Integration (J5) at US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Brigadier General Shawn Holtz, to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Ghana Navy, Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, on 28 August 2024, underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing security cooperation between the two forces.

The discussions at the Naval Headquarters focused on deepening the partnership in areas such as training, logistics, and intelligence-sharing, with a particular emphasis on improving maritime security and counter-piracy efforts in the Gulf of Guinea.

Rear Admiral Yakubu emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation within the Gulf of Guinea, a region crucial for both regional security and global trade. He reiterated the Ghana Navy's dedication to working closely with US AFRICOM to address evolving security challenges.

Brigadier General Holtz expressed his appreciation for the partnership, highlighting the need for continued cooperation and capacity building to strengthen regional security. He commended the Ghana Navy's ongoing efforts to maintain maritime stability in the Gulf of Guinea, recognizing their significant role in the broader security landscape of the region.
