The Commandant TRADOC Maj Gen Bismarck Onwona on Friday 14 July 2023 paid a working visit to the Engineer Training School (ETS) at Teshie to interact with participants of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) training program with the Ghana Armed Forces codenamed “OPERATION ZERO”.

The aim of the Commandant’s visit was to find out the operational and administrative measures that have been put in place to achieve a successful exercise.

The Commanding Officer of the Engineer Training School Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Roland Quartey in his briefing said the Electricity Company of Ghana, which is responsible for providing electricity to the southern belt of the country has over the years witnessed revenue losses as a result of non-payment of bills, power thievery, illegal power connections and poor database of customers among others.

He noted that the company intends to deploy its staffs to premises of its customers to demand payment of bills as well as visit all households to enroll them onto its database. He said collection of data into their CAIMS is an important exercise to facilitate the company’s revenue mobilization efforts.

In view of these, Lt Col Quartey said the ECG has therefore requested the assistant of the Ghana Armed Forces to support their exercise codenamed “OPERATION ZERO”.

He disclosed that the exercise will be conducted in three phases and that GAF will undertake the exercise in three regions namely the Greater Accra (Accra East, Accra West and Tema), Western and the Ashanti regions of the country.

In his short remarks, the Commandant TRADOC Maj Gen Onwona congratulated the participants for completing the training program successfully and also charged them to exhibit good behaviour and remain professional in the course of the exercise.

He noted that the ECG is counting greatly on the Armed Forces to help them to mobilize funds for national development. He also appealed to the GAF team to be diligent and put in their maximum best to ensure that the exercise is completed on time.

The Operation Zero will commence on Monday July 17 2023 and is scheduled to be completed in three months. About 150 all ranks soldiers will take in the exercise.

The Commandant was accompanied by the Deputy Commandant TRADOC Brig Gen Lawrence Gbetanu, the Assistant Commandant Tri-Service Training Schools Brig Gen Paul Tanye-Kulono and the Assistant Commandant Research and Doctrine Brig Gen Jackson Wonje. The rest of the entourage were the Director Land Doctrine TRADOC Col Ernest Nyuur and the Commanding Officer of TRADOC Lt Col Anthony Asiedu
