The Gender Advisor to the Chief of Army Staff, Colonel Rahinatu Sledge Alando, has sensitized personnel of 1 Infantry Battalion (1BN), Michel Camp, on gender mainstreaming and gender equality on Wednesday 9 October 2024.
She emphasised the importance of promoting gender equality at all levels, preparing leadership and personnel to enhance gender mainstreaming efforts and advancing the role of women in the Armed Forces.
Colonel Alando highlighted the Army’s unwavering support for the development of Gender Focal Persons and stressed the importance of promoting gender equality, despite challenges. She reiterated the commitment to providing equal opportunities for both men and women, bridging gaps, and including women in decision-making processes while eliminating stereotypes. The approach aims to leverage the strengths and weaknesses of both men and women to create a well-rounded Armed Forces.
Additionally, she mentioned that through the Elsie Initiative Fund, the Ghana Armed Forces established a comprehensive gender policy and initiated projects, including the construction of accommodations for female recruits at the Army Recruit Training Centres in Shai Hills and Daboya.
Colonel Alando also encouraged female personnel to avoid unnecessary excuses and fully commit to their duties.
