Colonel (Col) Alex Twumasi has handed over the mantle of leadership at the 48 Engineer Regiment to Lieutenant Colonel Frank Osei Amponsah on Friday 24 January 2025.
The event which was held under the supervision of Brig Gen Joseph Krobo Adu (Rtd) as Guest of Honour, saw the outgoing and incoming Commanding Officers signing the handing and taking over notes as well as handing over the regimental flag. 
In his farewell address, Col Twumasi thanked the Military High Command for the confidence reposed in him by appointing him to serve as the Commanding Officer of the Regiment.
He noted that the 48 Engineer Regiment plays a pivotal role in the area of general engineering to support national development. He said under his tenure, the Regiment partnered state institutions such as the Ministry of Finance, Ghana Boundary Commission, Ministry of Roads and Highways to deliver on its mission to support development.

“On the National Security intervention programmes, the regiment was deployed as part of the non-kinetic effort in the northern part of the country to combat the increasing threats of terrorism from Mali and Burkina Faso. The task saw sappers undertake borehole drilling, construction of major culverts to link communities that were cut off due heavy rains that washed off bridges and culverts, construction of ablution facilities for deprived secondary schools, gravelling and reshaping of feeder roads”, he added.
The Guest of Honour, Brigadier General Joseph Krobo Adu (Rtd), commended personnel of the Regiment for their dedication, professionalism and positive attitude in the discharge of their duties.
He noted that the Regiment had over the period been the sole combat engineer Unit providing support to GAF and the government for national development.

The distinguished retired General expressed his gratitude to the German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) for their continuous support to the Sappers fraternity.
He called on personnel of the Regiment to accord the new commanding officer the necessary support in order to make his duty tenure a success.
As part of the ceremony, the German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) presented two brand new Shantui Road Roller to the 48 Engineer Regiment to facilitate their operations.
