His Excellency (HE) John Dramani Mahama has been sworn in as the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces on Tuesday 7 January 2025.
The historic event which took place at the Black Star Square in Accra, under Parliamentary proceedings, saw President John Dramani Mahama assuming office as the 6th President of the Fourth Republic and Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang; the first female Vice President of Ghana after taking their respective oaths.
President Mahama in his inaugural speech called on leaders in the West African sub-region and Africa as a whole to unite in the fight against violent extremism and other security challenges. He noted that the volatile nature of the sub-region has been largely fueled by disinformation and misinformation.
He pledged to unite the nation since it was the only way the country could attain its developmental goals and called on the citizenry to rally behind him in his quest to build a prosperous Ghana.
As part of the ceremony, the C-in-C inspected his first guard of honour mounted by the Ghana Navy, heralded by a 21-gun salute as a collective mark of respect in his honour
The investiture attracted scores of well-wishers including Heads of State, members of the Diplomatic Corp as well as heads and leaders of organisations.
