The Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services (GAFMS) has held its maiden scientific conference at the 37 Military Hospital Officers’ Mess to promote interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare research.
The conference, which took place on Wednesday 23 October 2024, under the theme “Breaking Boundaries: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Health Research,” was attended by both serving and retired senior military healthcare practitioners.
In his remarks, the special guest of honour, the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Major General Joseph Prince Osei Owusu, emphasised that the health of military personnel is essential for defending the nation, noting that GAFMS has made significant strides by conducting health research to achieve its vision.
He further stated that GAFMS has promoted evidence-based practices among its members to improve healthcare delivery nationwide, underscoring that integrating the best available evidence into healthcare decision-making is essential for achieving optimal health outcomes.
The Officer in Charge of the Public Health Division at the 37 Military Hospital, Captain (GN) Harriet Manu, noted that the conference served as a platform for health professionals, policymakers, and academics to share their research and insights. She disclosed that the Division has gathered 50 research projects spanning various health areas, presented by professionals from diverse backgrounds, each contributing unique perspectives to enhance the understanding and approach to health research.
