RWANDAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TO GHANA VISITS CDS

Rwandan High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency (HE) Rosemary Mbabazi has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) William Agyapong to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries on Wednesday 5 November 2025.

In her remarks, HE Mbabazi congratulated Lt Gen Agyapong on his promotion and appointment. She lauded the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and Ghana, which she traced back to the critical period of the Rwandan genocide. She noted that the solidarity shown by Ghana during that period forged a bond to present date.

The High Commissioner disclosed that the Ghanaian government, has permitted Rwanda to erect a monument in Ghana to honour the heroes, including Ghanaian peacekeepers, who contributed to restoring peace in Rwanda.

HE Mbabazi also extended her heartfelt condolences to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for the Z9 Helicopter crash.

On his part, Lt Gen Agyapong recounted the pivotal role Ghanaian peacekeepers played during the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) in 1994. He noted that Ghanaian troops worked tirelessly alongside other forces to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians.

The CDS reaffirmed GAF’s commitment to strengthening the existing relations between the two countries and building on the shared legacy of peacekeeping and cooperation.
