The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) Regular Career Course (RCC) Intake 7 has launched its Diamond Jubilee celebration under the theme “Honouring Six Decades of Service to Country” on Wednesday 5 November 2025 at the Officer Cadets’ Mess Ante-Room, Whistler Barracks, Teshie.
The event ushered in series of activities including the announcement of the annual GMA Intake 7 Leadership Award for the Best Graduating Officer Cadet in Leadership, which would be an annual award with a cash prize.
In his address, Acting Commandant GMA, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Cornelius Komla Lithur thanked the retired generals, for their continued mentorship and dedication to guiding serving officers with courage and conviction.
On his part, the Acting President of GMA Intake 7, Brig Gen Joe Kwateng (Rtd), noted that their lasting legacy through historic milestones, includes hosting the first foreign cadets of Uganda and integrating eight pioneering women from the Women’s Auxiliary Corps under Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s vision.
He also recounted that the intake witnessed the commissioning of the first ten Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, two of whom later became Vice-Chancellors of the university. He disclosed that upon their graduation in November 1965, the intake provided the Guard of Honour for Ghana’s inaugural Organisation of African Unity (OAU) Summit that same year.
Brig Gen Joe Kwateng (Rtd), emphasised that the intake excelled diligently and contributed its quota to national development in the area of academics and governance.
The Chief Coordinator at the GMA, Colonel Noble Carl Dei-Alorse expressed appreciation on behalf of the Academy staff and cadets for the intake’s enduring commitment and support to their alma mater. He assured that the newly established Leadership Award would be accorded the honour it deserves as a testament to the intake’s distinguished legacy. He further pledged the Academy’s commitment to preserving and sharing the story of this remarkable heritage with future generations of officer cadets.
