Ghana has bid farewell to the late former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, during a state funeral held in her honour at the Black Star Square, Accra on Friday 28 November 2025.
The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency (HE) John Dramani Mahama delivered a tribute highlighting the exceptional leadership and lasting legacy of the late former First Lady. He underscored her pivotal role in the 31st December Women’s Movement, where she advanced opportunities for women and girls, especially in rural communities. He noted her devotion to her family and her commitment to transforming lives while laying a firm foundation for gender-sensitive policies.
President Mahama stated that her passing marks the end of an important chapter in Ghana’s political and social history, yet her influence would continue to guide future generations. He extended heartfelt condolences to her family and affirmed the nation’s appreciation for her dedicated service and patriotism.
In a sermon by the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana Most Rt Rev Titus Awotwi Pratt said there is a time and season for everything reminding all present of the transient nature of life. He further encouraged believers to find purpose and contentment in their God given assignment.
He acknowledged her life of service and noted that her legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
On behalf of the family, Honourable Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, expressed profound gratitude for the immense outpouring of love and support received from across the nation and beyond. She extended special appreciation to the President for honouring the late former First Lady.
The ceremony brought together government officials, Military High Command, traditional authorities and various associations who gathered to pay their final respects to a distinguished stateswoman.
