The Fourth Quarter Guard Changing ceremony between the Ghana Air Force (GHAF) and the Ghana Navy (GN) took place at Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, 8 December 2025.

Guard changing is a ceremonial military tradition that signifies the formal transfer of security responsibilities at the seat of government from one service to another.

The 46th edition of the ceremony was overseen by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, who witnessed the transfer of ceremonial duties from the Ghana Navy to the Ghana Air Force.

The parade showcased the discipline, professionalism, and tradition of the Ghana Armed Forces, with precision drills accompanied by the harmonious performances of the Navy and Air Force bands.

The origins of the Guard Changing ceremony trace back to the Palace of Whitehall in London, the official royal residence until 1689. Following the relocation of the British royal household to St. James’s Palace, the ceremony was moved there, and later to Buckingham Palace in 1837 after Queen Victoria took residence.

In Ghana, the ceremony is held quarterly and was first introduced on Wednesday, 5 May 2013, during President Mahama’s first term in office. The Guard Mounting is typically carried out by a section from the Army, Navy, or Air Force, under the command of an officer, usually a Lieutenant or Captain.

Present at the ceremony were the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Honourable Julius Debrah; Deputy Defence Minister, Honourable Brogya Genfi; senior government officials; the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong; senior military officers; heads of sister security services; selected schools; and a section of the general public.
