The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in collaboration with other security services, have conducted a Show of Force Exercise on Thursday 11 December 2025 in Accra.

The exercise aimed to enhance operational readiness, deter criminal elements and assure the public of the security services' preparedness to maintain peace and stability during the festive season.

It further sought to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and ensure a robust national security posture to counter threats and maintain a safe environment for the country.

The Director of Special Operations, Colonel Victor Mwinye stated that the security services were assembled to conduct the exercise to demonstrate the capacity of the forces and their ability to cooperate in maintaining peace and security within the country.

The Guest of Honour, Deputy Minister for Defence, Honourable Ernest Brogya Genfi, representing the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, commended the Armed Forces and other security services for successfully completing a mechanized route march. He highlighted the unity, readiness and professionalism demonstrated throughout the exercise.

He also emphasised that the operation was designed to reassure the public ahead of the festive season, rather than to intimidate them. He acknowledged the sacrifices of security personnel and noted that their commitment continues to uphold Ghana’s stability amid regional security challenges.

Hon Genfi also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing modern equipment, advanced technology, improved training and enhanced welfare for all security agencies. He urged the public to support the security services by reporting suspicious activities and contributing to the collective effort to maintain national peace.

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, also commended the security services for the successful exercise, highlighting their resilience, cooperation and professionalism. He encouraged personnel to remain vigilant and maintain a strong deterrent posture, particularly as the Christmas season approaches.

He reiterated the government’s dedication to improving their welfare and equipping them with the necessary resources for effective performance, referencing the President’s ‘big push’ initiative.
The exercise involved patrols along major routes in Accra, with teams from participating security services, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
