The 2 Garrison Education Centre (2 GEC) has organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for its facilitators at the Church of Pentecost, Air Force Worship Centre, Takoradi on Monday 17 November 2025.
The workshop organised under the theme “Inclusive Education”, pivoted on differentiated learning, inclusive education and safeguarding in schools, was held through the collaborative efforts of a group of alumni of the Ghana Armed Forces Basic Schools. It was also part of activities to kick-start the 60th and 50th anniversary celebrations of 2 GEC and the Ghana Armed Forces Teachers Association (GAFTA) respectively.
In his opening remarks, the Garrison Education Officer (GEO), Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Saviour Hadja emphasised that the workshop was a gathering of educational stakeholders who represented a vital pillar in the advancement of education in the Garrison.
He said that the capacity-building workshop demonstrated a collective commitment to empower both facilitators and learners with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to thrive in an evolving educational landscape that required them to catch up with current trends. He reminded participants that progress was most sustainable when all members of the educational community were carried along, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Delivering his lecture, the Guest of Honour and lead facilitator, Rev Dr Captain (Capt) Henry Godson-Afful, said that capacity building was at the core of shaping and delivering quality education.
He lectured on learning styles, inclusive education and understanding and supporting neurodiversity in the classrooms and mentioned dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) some learning disabilities or conditions affecting students across the world.
Captain Godson-Afful added that despite these conditions, which were militating against children, they could be managed through inclusive education.
He urged the facilitators to experiment with what they had learned in their various classrooms.
Footballs and Christian literature authored by Captain Godson-Afful were presented to the schools under 2 GEC. In addition, ten retired facilitators were also rewarded with cash tokens and certificates for their exemplary service to the Ghana Armed Forces.
